Festa da Floresta is a celebration of the richness of native Portuguese forests and an opportunity for local people to come together to talk about how we want our forests to look now and in the future. It is a community organised event to raise awareness of the unrealised potential of returning local land to native broadleaf woodland.

Biodiverse forest is an inherently beautiful living ecosystem, a rich habitat for native plants, wildlife and wild foods and a wonderful place for everyone to enjoy to spend time. Unlike pine and eucalyptus monocultures native chestnut forest is naturally resistant to forest fires. And importantly this type of forest can be a potential source of income for local people through tourism, timber and sustainable local woodcraft and products including honey and furniture.

At the Festa da Floresta, you will find: talks and workshops on a range of topics connected to reforestation, sustainable woodland management and biodiversity; a market of local craftspeople working with wood and natural forest products; and lively discussion amongst local residents. There will be displays by local children and entertainment and food in the evening. The 'Forest Dinner' costs €8 adult €5 children and include main course and dessert.

Please book your dinner in advance by calling Laura 961 480 954!

We hope to share information and knowledge, and together work towards transforming pine and eucalyptus plantations and unused land into beautiful woodland we can all enjoy. We believe that the Forest can be an important part of our community life and provide a wealth of beauty and natural resources for our local economy and ongoing wellbeing.

If you want to have a free stall at the Festa da Floresta market or would like more information or to be involved in any way, please contact:  p@premasagar.com.

I am passionate about building with round wood because it simply makes so much sense.
It’s autumn again and the abundance is obvious. The forest and land is heaving with food and we know of no greater joy than getting out into the hills and foraging this freely given resource.
